Academic Programs

Graduate: Master of Education in Literacy

The Graduate Studies Program in Literacy requires participants to complete 36 semester hours of graduate credit, which includes both campus-based courses and practical field experience in local schools. Through a carefully designed sequence of courses and experiences, graduates will be prepared to meet the literacy needs of students in elementary, middle, and secondary classrooms. The program follows the International Literacy Association (ILA) Standards.

Graduate: Master of Education in Literacy 4+1 for Education Majors

This advanced degree in literacy prepares certified teachers for additional certification as PK-12 reading specialists. Education majors are eligible to apply to the 4+1 Plan in Literacy in their senior year and, with approval from their academic advisor, PC education majors may begin the graduate program in the fall or spring semester of that year.

Graduate: Master of Education in Reading

The Master of Education in Reading is a 30-credit program that is designed to support certified classroom teachers. The program is also designed for content area teachers who wish to become proficient in evidence-based teaching practices in reading.

Graduate: Master of Education in School Counseling

The Graduate Studies Program in School Counseling prepares its students to become members of school guidance departments. The program examines the field of counseling from the three-fold aspect of theory, analysis, and application and follows the CACREP Standards. Students completing this pathway will be eligible for Rhode Island certification as a PK-12 School Counselor.

The Graduate Studies Program in School Leadership is designed to equip teachers with the skills necessary to become a school administrator. Recipients of Providence College master’s degrees in administration have gone on to become assistant principals, principals, assistant superintendents, and superintendents.

Graduate: Master of Theological Studies (Concentration in Catholic Education)

The Master of Theological Studies degree with a concentration in Catholic Education allows students the opportunity to earn a more specialized degree by taking four education courses that are offered each summer by the Providence Alliance for Catholic Teachers (PACT), which is centered at Providence College.

The Providence College Master’s in Urban Teaching program – the first of its kind in Rhode Island – aims to reduce the achievement gap in urban schools by providing early-career teachers the ​skills needed for success in urban classrooms. The program focuses on understanding the sociocultural contexts of urban teaching and developing strategies for student success.

Graduate: MBA Programs (Full- and part-time, 4+1, Accounting Cohort)

The MBA Program at Providence College offers four programs of study: Part-Time, Full-Time, 4 + 1,  and Accounting Cohort. Because students are all taking the same courses, these programs provide the option to slow down or accelerate time to degree completion.
